You heard me.
Nobody cares about the massive zit on your forehead.
Or your acne.
How you look, in general.
There are bigger problems in the world. People whose lives are actually endangered. And you're worried about something as trivial as how you look?
Incredible.
Now, you're probably peeved because I seem to be invalidating your 'suffering'. But I'd beg to differ. You're the one causing yourself all this unnecessary suffering. You're the one who's worrying over trivial things like your hip dips or whether somebody saw you trip on the stairs. I'm not even sorry when I say this:
It. Doesn't. Matter.
The only thing that matters is your output in this world, and who you are in your heart. Are you helping somebody, somehow? Are you a good person? Is the world benefiting from your existence? These are the big questions you actually need to ask. The questions you actually need to worry about are related to the things that are in your control, rather than out of it.
Life is too short to worry about crap that won't even matter in the future. Unnecessary worry steals your joy - it deprives you of the ability to actually live in the moment. So, stressing over things like whether or not anybody smelt your fart or whatever (honestly, that's completely normal, and in my opinion, not something to be that ashamed of, but do apologize if it inconveniences someone) is quite literally a waste of time. It happens one moment, and nobody cares about it the next, because everybody has better things to worry about, so why don't you?
Think about it, would you be worrying about all this if you were about to die?
Obviously not. Genius.
Additionally, you'll come to realize that there are actual people out there losing their lives - people out there who are currently suffering more than you are. So please, be grateful for your trivial problems instead of crying over them like they're your ex (whom you left for a reason).
After reading the quote above (excuse the language) from Mark Manson's 'The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck', you'll realize that certain things deserve giving a crap about - and others don't.
You will always have problems. You will always be stressed about something. However, you choose what you want to be worrying about. What actually matters to you.
For example, you're a software engineer, even though your lifelong dream was to become a writer. Furthermore, your job stresses you out. You quit. You become a writer. There will be ups and downs in your journey as a writer. This is where the golden question comes in - would you rather worry about something you're actually passionate about, or something that others have made you passionate about?
Now, I'll speak from personal experience.
I used to get embarrassed over small things, like, a lot. Whether I smiled properly or not, whether that one person I accidentally bumped into thought I was weird or not, and the thing is, as soon as I stopped giving a crap about trivial stuff like that, and started focusing on the bigger picture, felt more liberated, more at peace. I reminded myself that there are people who are actually dying, people who would do anything to switch places with me. That I should be grateful for where I am.
And that has made all the difference.
In conclusion, choosing what you give a crap about, and whether it's something that actually matters in the bigger picture, as well as being grateful for where you are regardless of how bad it may be, is what will lead to true happiness and contentment.
Your life will never be perfect in the way you imagine it - because you imagine a life without problems. And that's unrealistic. So start living the life you dream of, except, do it with the problems that actually matter. And enjoy every sight of the journey, because it's a one-way street you won't get to travel again.
