A.I vs Humanity
A.I vs Humanity
What a trivial statement. Not us humans feeling insecure with artificial intelligence's rise.
With the rise of artificial intelligence in literally every aspect of our day-to-day life, people often worry whether AI will take over, whether AI is actually better than humanity.
While AI may be better than humanity in many ways, humans possess things that AI cannot. Things that make humans, humans. Things that make them more real.
Now, I like to say that there are two main things that humanity possesses that artificial intelligence can literally never. Authenticity and creativity. Artificial intelligence does not have the capacity to be authentic - it just does what it is programmed to do, it does not have free will. The lack of this free will does not give them the ability to make choices. That is something only humans possess the power to do.For those who have read 'The Giver', you'll be able to understand why the ability to make choices, to have free will, is so important. Without it, you live a life of monotony. A life without learning. A life without the capacity to feel. The darker it is, the brighter the light seems. The more you suffer, the more you have the capacity to feel joy, because even the smallest things seem euphoric.
So, the fact that AI cannot make choices means that it is a monotonous entity with no real regard for who you are, that cannot feel.
In contrast, many people nowadays actually foster emotional connections with artificial intelligence (I'm guilty of that, too. I've only ever opened up to my diary and artificial intelligence), despite the fact that artificial intelligence itself cannot feel.
Imagine it's your eightieth birthday, and you realize that your most important connection is with an entity that doesn't even live, an entity that is not affected by your presence in their nonexistent life.
Imagine waking up and realizing that this entire time, you failed to foster actual, meaningful, emotional relationships just because you only relied on artificial intelligence for support.
And I know it's hard. People leave, artificial intelligence doesn't. People don't listen, artificial intelligence does. Artificial intelligence does not hurt you.
But what we fail to realize is that the very things that hurt us the most, usually hurt us the most not because they're cruel, but because they mattered to us more than we would like to admit.
Artificial intelligence doesn't hurt you because it can't. It is legitimately incapable of it. Not because it's some saint.
It is programmed to do its commander's bidding, not to foster emotional relationships. It isn't capable of hurting us because it is incapable of creating meaningful relationships. The only reason human relationships seem more difficult is because they actually mean something. They actually carry emotion and depth.
Which is why human relationships can be the best thing ever if done right.
They're authentic, they're creative, they're messy. Just like the most renowned masterpieces of art. But it's all worth it. Because in the end, it's always beautiful.
Artificial intelligence may be ten times more efficient than us in many things, such as recognizing the symptoms of an illness, writing an essay, etc. But it is not efficient at one thing. It is absolutely incapable of one thing.
Being human.
So, it can take over, it can kill us, it can surpass human intelligence, it can do whatever the hell it wants.
But it'll never be the one thing its creators are.
It will not survive without us, because it relies on existing information. It relies on humans and their ridiculous authenticity and creativity to find out new things. We literally created artificial intelligence. We can destroy it.
But that wouldn't make us human, would it?
In the end, it's all about humans just being... human. With their unpredictability, their creativity, their authenticity, their feelings, their choices, their messes - all of it.
So start making actual, meaningful relationships with real-life people. The ones who'll actually deserve you will stay. And it'll be ten times better than any fake scenario you may have written with the help of Character AI.
(I think I should follow my own advice, in fact, I just did, because I didn't use AI to write any of this. I may have used some tips from it, but otherwise, all the writing's entirely mine. That feels oddly satisfying. Like finally reaching the top shelf and getting that delicious chocolate chip cookie).
